Suicide Prevention for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs)
This session will be a panel presentation given by members of the AANA Health and Wellness Committee. Presenters will establish a warm, supportive, safe environment for the discussion; describe the phenomenon of suicide in nursing in general and nurse anesthetists in particular. The concept of responding to the stresses of the profession and life will be discussed, including the importance of seeking help for mental health challenges such as depression, followed by describing helpful and harmful coping mechanisms. Signs identifying suicide risk will be described. Intervention techniques and helpful and extensive AANA Health and Wellness resources, available on the AANA website will be discussed (AANA Website). These resources include a link to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
