  • Navigating the Last Phase of Your CRNA Career

    Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) experience several challenges over the course of their careers. Some of these challenges are unique to certain points in time, such as early, middle and late career phases. A great deal of attention and resources are directed toward assisting student registered nurse anesthetists make a successful transition into practice as a CRNAs. However, little attention is directed toward late career CRNAs and their possible struggles with ageism, negative stereotypes of older workers, lack of opportunity for advancement, possible physical limitations, and conflicts with younger colleagues. In this presentation, we will explore the common stereotypes and biases toward older workers, benefits of retaining late career CRNAs in the workforce, and adaptive strategies to help older CRNAs remain in practice.
