ISMP Launches Medication Safety Self-Assessment for Perioperative Settings
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) launched a Medication Safety Self-Assessment® for Perioperative Settings to help hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other surgery sites determine how well current systems and staff practices are protecting patients from medication errors. The assessment offers these facilities opportunities such as identifying gaps in perioperative and procedural medication systems, analyzing current states of medication safety, and measuring progress over time. The perioperative self-assessment is being conducted under a contract from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Facilities can participate anonymously via a secure, password-protected website, and will have unlimited opportunity to view and download their own scores during the data collection period.
Julie Boytim, DNP, CRNA served on the advisory group which informed the content of this resource and the AANA has endorsed this assessment tool.
