  • Implicit Bias, Implications, and Discordant Anesthesia Practices in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) (LGBTQAI+) Community

Implicit bias can have detrimental physical and emotional effects during the perioperative period. Anesthesia providers may be unaware of their own implicit bias toward populations that are already at risk for discrimination and are, therefore, unaware of the consequences of implicit bias in their anesthesia practices. This lecture focuses on care of the LGBTQ community and anesthetic implications associated with this community. It is intended to help you recognize your own implicit bias toward vulnerable populations and to help you minimize the effects implicit bias has on your anesthesia practice. (1 Class A CE)
