COA Update Regarding Revisions to Standards and Policies
At its January 28-30, 2021, meeting, the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) approved revisions to its Standards for Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs – Practice Doctorate and Accreditation Policies and Procedures manual.
These revisions were made in response to recommendations from the Full Scope of Practice Competency Task Force, the COA’s Standards Revisions Subcommittee, and the COA’s Standards and Policies Committee. The approved revisions will be effective for all students matriculating into accredited nurse anesthesia programs on or after January 1, 2022.
As part of the programming for the recent Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators, the COA prepared a COA Update in which revisions to the Standards were introduced and explained by Laura Bonanno, PhD, DNP, CRNA, COA President, and Frank Gerbasi, PhD, CRNA, COA CEO.
The Update also featured a discussion of revisions to the AACN Essentials by John McFadden, PhD, CRNA, Co-Chair AACN Essentials Task Force. This recorded COA Update, as well as a PDF of the COA’s presentation and a summary of all approved revisions, are available on the COA website.
Should you have any questions regarding the approved revisions to the Standards and policies, please contact the COA at 847-655-1160 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
